Especially For You.... Who? Um-NO Member Laaaa!

Especially For You...... it is a title of a song made popular by singer Kylie Monique.

However, today's posting is specially dedicated to all members of Malay political party whose name is still in English but very much ag
ainst the usage of this language in pretext to protect the national language. For your children sake, please la.. If you do not want them to be globalized, don't politicized this issue. Give the other children a choice and not blanket ban.

This chimp is laughing seeing the people saying

"you're not patriotic or Malaysian enough"
"because you speak in English"

I AGREE with “English holds the key to achieving Vision 2020” (The Star, March 21). English is one of the most vital languages – it’s global, and will ensure we move ahead as a respected nation.

It’s almost ridiculous, this unnecessary bickering over mastering English. It’s not a matter of need or otherwise, it’s a vital element, be it for employment or daily interaction.

English will enable us to face the globalized world. Imagine us in Vision 2020 minus English proficiency. We could well become the laughing stock of other nations.

We can improve our level of English not only through the education system, but also by reading newspapers and magazines in English, blogging in English and conversing in English whenever and wherever we can.

The keyword of the day is self-improvement.

I remember, during my school days, most of my schoolmates could not string a proper sentence together in English. I was teased. Now I wonder how my former schoolmates are faring in life.

Our mother tongue has always been there, we will still practice our native language, but in this world we have to be at least on par with other developed nations. We would not want to be left behind.

Speaking English can never make one less patriotic or less Malaysian.

SAIFUL NIZAM,

Kuala Lumpur.
