If & Only If You're Thinking The Future Of Your Children...

As parents we all know how important the English language is to our children’s future. We also know that without mastering the English language, it will be hard for our children to find a good paying job in the private sector.

We don’t expect all our children to only apply for government jobs.

Big multinational companies will pay high ranking workers a good salary only if they have a good grasp of the English language.

There is nothing wrong at all if one is good in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. I would want my child to master the English language and at the same time have a good command of Bahasa Malaysia.

I hope the Education Minister will bring back English-medium schools, which were around till the early 90s. Forget about pressure from those members of Perkasa or Malay political party. This people never think about the future of their children. We will respect you more if you can uphold the power entrusted on you. We are not a LAZY Malay like those people. They want to be lembu, let them be. Don't drag us too. Give option for the young student an option to determine their future.

In urban areas and big towns there are private schools that use English as a medium of instruction. The sad thing is not many parents can afford to send their children to such expensive private schools.

No i have nothing against you.

Its just that i totally disagree with you regarding this issue.

If youre very good in english dont expect other people to be as good too. They minght be some kampung boys who love educations but just cant stand english.

Capitalism can be in many forms. One of them is capitalism in education.

We must encourage the translation industry, just like japan, france and other developed country.

Just look at india, philipines and even africa (whose country that encourage english). Only certain people can have access to good education due to lack of resource in their mother tongue language.

>>Dont you think you just being selfish here? All for the sake of money? If they respect us enough (like they respect japan) they even pay good workers good salary regardless of their speaking language. Heck, they will even learn our language.

So please, english has nothing to do with our children. You want to learn it, go on. but dont force others to make a similar stand.

Oh well, after all, its your blog, isnt it?

Thank you encik kerani for your comment.

I would never say your comment is wrong neither I want to say you're right.

It is true to say something like this "Bahasa kebangsaan diutamakan, bahasa inggeris diperkasakan".

Question is..... How perkasa English has been for the past year since 2008 other than establishment of NGO by the name of Perkasa?

Time is running very quickly, people (children) are growing up and we are going older and older. For us to wait the translation industry to expend would be too late. Generally only love novels being translated but educational materials is too slow which would read our young generations are left far behind (tak terkejor nnt dgn perkembangan dunia).

"Just look at india, philipines and even africa (whose country that encourage english). Only certain people can have access to good education due to lack of resource in their mother tongue language." That is your comment.

Well, just image in the countries that are seen do not encourage english like Malaysia. How to access to good education. You tell me!

Just because you (the mentri)are in power, surviving on political support, don't impose a blanket ban. That is not fair to others. What I want is an option for our children to learn and improve their international language. If you feel english has nothing to do with your children, then, don't let them choose english medium as much as I want my children to opt english.

Then only it can be said Malaysia is a democratic country.

Couldnt be more agrieer with you about this one though. You made a good point here.

As you said, we are in a free country. If you want to be an english literated person, thats good. Be a good one. Dont be such a halfhearted person like our menteris who proudly speak broken english in national television. ;)

I just hate to see our youngsters talking to each other in manglish, singlish, or just plain broken english. Theyre not even putting some effort to speak the language properly. They just proud NOT to speak in malay. How sad.

My niece in Iowa once told me that she found out that students from other country, namely mainland china, are trying very hard to be english literates. They even speak with american slangs and use the proper sentences unlike malaysian student whod rather comfortable using phua chu kang sentences.

Nice blog you have here and i'll definately be a regular visitor.

Salam.
